Hearts Melt as New Mom Cat Immediately Adopts Stray Kitten: 'Mine'

A Siamese cat called Mushu has melted hearts online after her owner said that she recently adopted a stray kitten as one of her own.

In a post shared on TikTok on Sunday under the username @siamese.planet.19, the feline mom can be seen nursing her own litter of kittens when, all of a sudden, her owner comes in with a new kitten that was found by itself. Instantly and without hesitation, Mushu picked up the youngster and made it her own. She noticed he was cold and hungry and nursed him back to health.

The post comes with a caption that reads: "We took in a newborn kitten that was found by itself. She immediately accepted him. Mama Mushu has another dumpling! He was so cold when we got him, but she knows what to do. meet Shrimp! Now Shrimp has a new family. Our newest dumpling."

Newborn kittens need their mom for several weeks after birth, mainly to get all the necessary nutrients for their development but also to learn how to groom themselves and how to socialize.

The pet-wellness experts at Rover say that, while shelters and other animal organizations approve adoption starting from 8 weeks of age, it is best for kittens to wait until they are at least 13 weeks old.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 5.1 million views and more than 642,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Steph V, commented: "When our cat had kittens she tried to grab our other full grown cat and drag her in there."

Meixel_Media wrote: "Oh, yes, that extra one I ordered on Amazon. Right on time!" And you're_dead_to_me_ added: "She's like 'give it here, you don't know what you're doing."

Another user, that_vagabond_bro, posted: "My cat recently had kittens and once she baths the kittens she tries to do the same to my dog whose 10x her size and he LOVES it."

And Jade added: "My cat had kittens and I found an ad on facebook about two kittens needing a foster mom, those kittens were a week older than our kittens but half the size."
