New Manchester United signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed the words of one of the club's failed transfers convinced him to join.
Armenian Mkhitaryan joined from Borussia Dortmund for £26.3 million ($34.7 million) at the start of July, after he was swayed by a former United player, Shinji Kagawa.
"Every time Shinji talked about Manchester he told me something good so it gives a good impression," Mkhitaryan told The Daily Telegraph. "You have to try and do everything to show your best qualities otherwise you will not be here anymore."
Kagawa was a Dortmund team-mate of Mkhitaryan's last season, having moved back from Old Trafford in the summer of 2014. The Japanese attacker occasionally sparkled at United during two years with the club, but ultimately failed to achieve consistency.
Mkhitaryan scored for United against his old club Dortmund during United's ill-fated pre-season tour to China this month, in a 4-1 defeat.
He could make his competitive debut for Jose Mourinho on August 7 in the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium against Leicester City.
