Hunter Schafer's Golden Globes Dress Mocked—'It's Giving Plastic Wrap'

Hunter Schafer's Golden Globes dress is being mocked online following her appearance on the 2024 awards show red carpet.

The Euphoria star, 25, stepped out in a Prada gown with translucent fabric ribbons trailing behind her.

After photos of Schafer started making the rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter, fans were quick to compare her ensemble to "plastic wrap" and "cobwebs."

"It's giving plastic wrap," one user wrote underneath a photo posted by PopCrave.

"Cobweb realness," a second added, while a third asked, "Cobwebs?"

"Sorry this looks like a dress made of plastic wrap," someone else commented on the same photo shared by PopBase.

"SPIDERWEB MOTHER," another chimed in, as a separate user said, "My shrink wrap beauty."

Countless more, meanwhile, posted photos of plastic wrap.

Despite the negative comments, there were plenty of positive ones too.

"Omg, she's so gorgeous," wrote one X user on the platform.

"Wow so beautiful just like an angel," a second agreed.

"She looks like a swan in the most beautiful way," stated another.

Newsweek reached out to Schafer via email for comment.

This isn't the first time Schafer has been criticized for her look at an awards show. In March, the New Jersey native was called "tacky" for her dress and skirt combination at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Schafer wore a barely-there top from Ann Demeulemeeeter by Ludovic de Saint Sernin and paired it with a low-rise skirt.

At the time, E! News shared video footage of the actress via Instagram, which sparked a wave of backlash in the replies.

"Nope, is it the Playboy party or the Oscars?" one detractor quipped. "Seems like the first one. I mean she has a great body but no, it is just not it. Who would even call this an outfit?"

Another added, "Is that a mask around her chest?" as a third stated, "I am all for women wearing what they want.. but this is just a grab at publicity which actually sets women back.. disappointed."

Schafer catapulted to fame after she was cast as Jules in HBO's Euphoria. Prior to her breakout role, she was already a model and LGBTQ+ activist.

Back in November, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star explained her style to Harper's Bazaar.

"When I get dressed for a day off, I try and put in as little thought as possible," she said. "That means jeans, a T-shirt, and boots. I'm a boot girl. Even if it's hot, I don't care. It's for fashion."
