Fans of the Father of the Bride films can create the unique look of these movies with a few simple design touches.

Various works by American filmmaker Nancy Meyers, the writer of the Father of the Bride movies and romantic comedies such as Something's Gotta Give, It's Complicated and The Holiday, have inspired the serene and idyllic "coastal grandmother" design trend on social media.

The "cozy" and "timeless" feel of the Father of the Bride films is characterized by some key design elements, according to interior designer Valerie (@brextoncoleinteriors on TikTok).

She shared her tips for achieving the "Nancy Meyers movie look" in a viral TikTok video, which has had over 110,000 views since it was first posted on March 21.

A message overlaid on the clip says "Ask a designer: How to recreate a Nancy Meyers home" as the video highlights several home features seen on the set of Father of the Bride.

Around 3 in 5 homeowners remodeled or decorated their home in 2022, while nearly half made repair, according to a survey of 46,118 U.S. homeowners aged 18 and older conducted by Houzz, a home design website.

The survey found that the median spend for home renovations in 2022 was reported to be $22,000, while the median for higher-budget updates reached $140,000 or more.

Interior spaces were reported to be the most popular areas to renovate in the same year, with homeowners taking on an average of nearly three interior projects at a time.

The voice in the clip notes "Probably the biggest trait in Nancy Meyers movies is the wall color."

"Another design detail that I've noticed are beautiful line white covered seats and sofas," the voice says. The clip shows a living room area with sofas surrounding a coffee table.

Simple Layering

The voice in the clip says "At first glance, all of her [Meyers'] movies are so homey. One of the key reasons for this is her simple layering." The video showcases another living room setup with couches and sofas on carpeted flooring near a fireplace.
