Internet Calls for Divorce After Man Spent Anniversary With Prostitute

The Internet is rallying behind a spouse whose husband spent their second wedding anniversary with a prostitute, and the topic of divorce has consequently been brought up.

The viral Reddit post recounting the situation, titled, "My husband spent our anniversary with a hook&r," has been upvoted 9,600 times since it was shared in the subreddit "True Off My Chest" on April 20.

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy reported that according to national surveys, 15 percent of women and 25 percent of men who are married have had intercourse outside of their relationship. When not including intercourse and focusing on emotional and sexual relationships, the amount rose to 20 percent.

Redditor @Throwra356767 shared the situation online, revealing they're "incredibly hurt and confused right now." The couple has been married for two years, and on their second anniversary, they got into a "minor fight" that morning.

The original poster's (OP) husband left the apartment, and the OP got ready and set up for dinner, placing his gift on the table. However, he didn't return that evening. The Redditor both called and texted their husband, but received no response.

The OP continued: "I waited till 11 p.m., then I cleaned everything up, but still stayed up and waited for him. At 2 a.m. his phone was turned off. I got worried and couldn't sleep till he had his friend call at 4 a.m. to tell me he was with him, and I didn't have to worry."

The following day the OP's husband returned home at 10 a.m., and he stayed in bed and didn't speak to his spouse regarding their anniversary. Once asleep, the OP searched through his phone and discovered that he met up with a prostitute some hours after leaving home.

"I felt a wave of anger hit me," the OP continued. "I put the phone away and didn't confront him about it. He tried to talk about the fight but acted like nothing else was going on. I felt so upset and frustrated. I cried because of the fact he did this to me and on our anniversary."

The OP concluded: "I don't know...It makes me feel like I'm not enough or like everything I did for him wasn't enough. I wish I didn't see this and wish I could get rid of this awful feeling of guilt and shame."

Over 900 comments have come in over the viral Reddit post, and people are calling for divorce over the situation. "Take screenshots and send them to yourself," a Redditor said. "Then file for divorce."

One Redditor suggested it probably wasn't the spouse's first encounter with a prostitute. "Go seek a divorce lawyer and tell him that it's his anniversary present," they said. "Also get tested for STIs because you don't know if he used protection."

Some think the husband had motives for the fight on their anniversary. "You do realize that the 'fight' was so he could leave the house, right?" a Redditor asked. "Also, sorry, but no one waits until the day of their anniversary to cheat. Maybe not that particular person, but he's been out there."

Yet another person brought up divorce after reading the post. "If you guys had a fight and the first thing he did was cheat, then he doesn't deserve you," the Redditor added. "He sounds immature and selfish. Run from that man and never turn back."

Other people called for the OP to get checked out by a doctor after their husband's behavior. "Gross. Leave him," a Redditor wrote. "Get tested for STDs. Go have a good life without him."

While one Redditor told the OP to be "thankful" it was only their second anniversary "so you didn't waste too much time on this garbage person. Get out and find a partner worthy of you. Good luck!"

This isn't the only viral post regarding relationships lately. A man was blasted online for asking his wife for an open relationship until she lost weight. In addition, a woman left her fiancé alone while recovering from open-heart surgery. A man also hid his girlfriend's passport to keep her from going on a trip to visit a friend.
