Iowa's Caitlin Clark Drops Bonkers 41 Points in Revenge Game Against LSU

The Iowa Hawkeyes beat the mighty LSU Tigers, their 2023 NCAA championship game nemeses, on Monday, April 1, in a high-scoring 94-87 affair, behind an epic 41-point, 12-assist, seven-rebound line from superstar senior point guard Caitlin Clark.

Last year, LSU bested Iowa 102-85 in an epic title fight. Then-junior forward Angel Reese was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in the victory. This year, the Hawkeyes had the upper hand, thanks largely to the efforts of Clark.

Behind a shooting barrage from Clark, the Hawkeyes got off to a 15-6 edge early. During a timeout with Iowa still up 17-9, Reese spoke in no uncertain terms to head coach Kim Mulkey, demanding that she be featured more in the team's offense.

And give her the f---ing ball they did.

Buoyed by a forceful push from Reese in the paint, the Tigers clawed their way back into the fray. Reese unfortunately turned her right ankle early in the contest's second quarter but was soon able to return to the floor.

Eventually, the two sides were exchanging buckets with abandon. The first half of the matchup ended with the game all tied up, 45-45. Reese finished the half with 13 points and eight boards.

The third quarter marked the moment everything changed, more or less for good. Clark scored four of her nine triples in the period.

Reese enjoyed a strong night but had trouble avoiding the ire of referees. She did notch a 17-point, 20-rebound performance in what might be her final college game ever (she has one more year of eligibility, and indicated she would make a decision on going pro or staying in college whenever her season finished). The 6'3" star was whistled for her fifth and final foul at the 1:45 mark when she was ejected. Flau'jae Johnson's 23 points paced the Tigers on offense.

LSU opened the fourth quarter behind by double digits, 69-58, but the team went on a little 5-0 run to close the gap. The 69-63 margin was as close as the contest would get down the home stretch. Clark helped push her Hawks on an 11-6 run to create an 80-69 edge at the 5:05 mark. She was named the region's Most Outstanding Player for her efforts in helping the Hawkeyes record the W.

Here's Clark recording her ninth and final triple of the evening:

It was quite the revenge game indeed.

Iowa will now advance to the Final Four for the second straight season. The team will face the University of Connecticut Huskies, who also won on Monday.
