Twenty-seven years later, the Losers Club has reunited and Pennywise still sends a chill down your spine.
Warner Brothers debuted the first trailer Thursday of the sequel to critically-acclaimed 2017 IT movie. The trailer opens about with Jessica Chastain (playing grown-up Beverly Marsh), and while the initial nostalgic feeling is lovely, it is short-lived.
"You know what they say about Dary," prefaces the creepy elderly woman. "No one who dies here ever really dies."
As the mood continues to get more and more uncomfortable, viewers have still not laid eyes on the infamous Satanic clown–not until there's a glimpse of the past.
"What did you father do Mrs. Kersh," Beverly asked.
"My father joined the circus," the woman responded as the photo of a humanized Pennywise comes into view.
If you aren't creeped out yet, wait until you hear the clown's evil giggle and finally catch glimpses of the embodiment of your worst nightmare. Bill Skarsgård returns as the demonic clown and Stephen King fans are equally applauding and cowering in fear.
Many fans took to social media to post their reactions to the debut trailer. While many complimented the impeccable casting of the grown-up Losers Club, others posed a question, who is the villain of 2019: Avengers' Thanos or Pennywise?
"Bill Skarsgård came back as Pennywise just to snatch the title of 'Best Villain' from Thanos," Twitter user @tidemirrorsnjh wrote.
"Thanos: I'm the real deal Pennywise: Hold my balloons," @jwalin_ added.
Chastain will be joined by James McAvoy (Split) as Bill, Bill Hader (HBO's Barry) as Richie, Isaiah Mustafa (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments) as Mike, Jay Ryan (Mary Kills People) as Ben, James Ransone (HBO's The Wire) as Eddie, and Andy Bean (Allegiant) as Stanley.
"The film is Andy Muschietti's follow-up to 2017's massive worldwide box office hit IT, which grossed over $700 million globally," according to the film's description. "Both redefining and transcending the genre, IT became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time."
"Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, IT Chapter Two brings the characters—who've long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film," the description concluded.
The sequel is slated to premiere in theatres and IMAX on September 6.
