England striker Jamie Vardy is to end weeks of speculation over his club future by committing to a new deal with Leicester City.

Vardy, 29, had been the subject of a £22 million ($32.7 million) bid from Arsenal that activated his release clause, following a season with Leicester in which he won the English Premier League and finished as its second-top scorer.

A statement on Leicester's official website confirmed Vardy had rejected overtures from other teams to agree an extension with the East Midlands club for four more years, adding: "Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France."

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, had already hinted that his pursuit of Vardy was struggling when he told a Chinese television station earlier in June that the striker was set to stay at Leicester.

Vardy's rise to leading light at the Premier League champion has been meteoric. Six years ago, he was playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels, a non-league team on the outskirts of Sheffield.
