Oscar-winner and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto has signed with WME (William Morris Endeavor) for representation in film and television, Variety reported on Thursday. Leto will continue to be repped by CAA for musical representation for his band.
Leto won an Oscar for his role as a trans woman in Dallas Buyers Club. His acting career began in the '90s, appearing in supporting roles on film and television. He appeared in Hollywood blockbusters like Girl, Interrupted and Fight Club. Lately, Leto has portrayed the leading villain in movies like Suicide Squad, where he played the Joker and Blade Runner 2049, where he played Niander Wallace opposite Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.
He also starred in the Netflix original action film The Outsider, which premiered in March and was slammed by critics. It was described as "yet another story about a white dude who manages to insinuate himself into a historically inaccessible Japanese subculture just to have sex with the most coveted native woman around and then ruin everyone's life in the noble pursuit of something no one asked him to do in the first place," by IndieWire's David Erhlich.
For his next role, Leto will be joining another superhero universe in a Sony Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, a standalone film directed by Daniel Espinosa with Leto starring as the titular character and infamous Spider-Man villain. The film will tell the story of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who develops a rare blood disease that transforms him into a vampire. Morbius will join Venom as the next upcoming Sony-Marvel movie featuring villains as the main character.
Leto will not be reprising his role as the Joker, as DC announced at San Diego Comic Con in July that they will be filming a Joker standalone movie with Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Besides playing the bad guy, Leto is slated to produce and star in an Andy Warhol biopic, titled Warhol, about the life and career of the famed pop-art artist
