Jared Leto's Bizarre Golden Globes Moment Goes Viral

Jared Leto's attendance at the 81st annual Golden Globes in Los Angeles on Sunday bizarrely resulted in people poking fun at the actor after a photo of him went viral.

Leto has starred in films such as Suicide Squad and Dallas Buyers Club and he is the lead vocalist for the band Thirty Seconds to Mars. Known for his method acting, he has won multiple awards during his 30-year career, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

Posting to X, formerly Twitter, social media user @nicolewboyce shared a screenshot of Oprah Winfrey talking to the camera while at the 2024 Golden Globes. In the background, Leto can be seen sitting at a table all by himself.

"Jared Leto what did you do to your table mates," they captioned the post. At the time of writing, it had been viewed 788,700 times. They weren't the only person to notice him sitting all alone, and others took to the social media platform to share screenshots of the Morbius actor.

"I'm screaming because it looks like everyone who was trapped at Jared Leto's table abandoned him by the end of the ceremony lol," one person wrote.

"Jared Leto in the background looking like a malevolent spirit who's invisible to everyone except the cursed commentator," said another.

"Jared Leto murdering everyone at his Golden Globes table was honestly on my 2024 bingo card so big win for me," someone else joked.

A fourth added: "Jared Leto sitting all alone staring at Oprah thinking, 'I will become her.'"

Newsweek reached out to Leto's publicist for comment via email on Monday.

Before his comrades had left the table, Leto had been seated with Nicholas Cage and Joaquin Phoenix. People online also pointed out how interesting that table would have been.

"They seated Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto, and Nicholas Cage at the same table?" one person asked, to which someone replied: "It's either the most interesting table or the most awkward."

Another person added: "Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto, and Nic Cage are sitting at a table together at the Golden Globes. That's gotta be the craziest table in awards show history."

This isn't the only time that Leto's appearance at the awards show went viral. It also happened when he joined Angela Bassett as a presenter earlier in the evening to help announce this year's categories for best supporting actress and actor in a motion picture.

He took a moment to roast himself over his status as one of Hollywood's most infamous method actors, joking that he went completely method in preparing for his role as a Globes presenter.

"I have been in presenter mode for weeks now," Leto told the audience. "I've been doing research developing my character, incessantly reminding everyone around me to please call me by my character name, dammit."

"You mean 'Jared Leto?'" Bassett asked.

"Exactly! I've also learned the art of holding an envelope," Leto continued. "It's about the angle, the grip. It's about the subtlety, the meaningful connection between presenter partner and paper. It is a deeply emotional journey...This is embodying the spirit of the Golden Globes. Feeling each nominee's hopes and dreams at your fingertips as you hold their destiny and their agent's bonuses/balls in your hands."

A video of his and Bassett's exchange was posted to the Golden Globes X account and at the time of writing, had been viewed over 158,000 times.
