Jeb Bush Lectures Room Rater Account for 'Partisan' Zoom Background Ratings

Jeb Bush accused the "Room Rater" Twitter account of judging Republicans more harshly than Democrats, and immediately faced a backlash for calling out a Twitter feed while staying silent amid President Donald Trump's continued efforts to subvert the results of the 2020 election.

The popular account rates the Zoom or Skype backgrounds of politicians, celebrities and public figures during television interviews conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bush, the former governor of Florida and brother of former president George W. Bush, on Saturday accused the account's operators of being "hyper partisan" when it comes to their assessments.

His ire was apparently provoked by Room Rater awarding Doug Heye, a Republican strategist, only 9 out a maximum 10 for his background during an appearance on CNN.

"Mr. Room Rater, is it possible now that the election is over to rate rooms on a non partisan basis? Are you a room rater or a hyper partisan person that is the problem? We need less hyper partisanship on backgrounds at this time for our country," Bush tweeted.

Room Rater pointed out that Heye had not fared badly, while adding that "Canadian half of Room Rater identifies as she/her." Heye himself tweeted that he was happy with his score.

Yet Bush wrote another tweet, addressed the account as "Room man," and called for "a review of your ratings based on ideology."

"The backgrounds are varied but your bias is constant. Be honest. Try to make a difference. If not, you are part of the problem," he added.

Room Rater replied: "Again, girl here. My American half of Rater and I still don't know if the 9 we gave to @DougHeye is too high or too low for you. We stand by our rating. The room is a 9/10."

Both Bush and Room Rater were trending on Twitter on Sunday.

Many questioned why the former GOP presidential candidate was feuding with a Twitter account, but not speaking up about Trump and other Republican allies continuing to air baseless allegations about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Robyn Patterson, the national press secretary of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, tweeted: "Jeb Bush lecturing Room Rater while his friends literally try and steal an election is quite a mood."

"Jeb Bush watched a failed coup silently and then picked a very public fight with Room Rater. Please clap," Pat Cunnane, a former Obama White House press aide, added.

Todd Rowley, a Democratic congressional candidate, wrote: "This is why Jeb Bush has no political future. It's sad because Jeb is a true, conservative Republican (we can only still assume, right?). Someone & something we could all identify with pre-Trumpism. Jeb has courage to feud with #RoomRater but none to dress down Trump. Really!?"

His comment came in response to a tweet from Asha Rangappa, who wrote: "Nothing says Low Energy Jeb like a former presidential candidate and the son and brother of *two former presidents* going full Popcorn Nikki on...Room Rater."

Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand, wrote: "Room Rater is the problem. Not Donald Trump. Makes total sense."

In another tweet, she added: "Jeb Bush's party is refusing for the first time in our nation's history of democracy to participate in a peaceful transition of presidential power, but he's worried a twitter handle that judges people's backgrounds for fun is actually the problem. Please clap."

Room Rater and a spokesperson for Bush have been contacted for comment.
