Jeff Bezos Mocked for Tweet Over First Job at McDonald's: 'Just Like Us!'

Jeff Bezos's attempt to appear like a man of the people didn't sit well with many after he was mocked for his tweet about McDonald's.

The Amazon CEO and multi-billionaire shared a picture of himself eating a McDonald's meal, reminding everyone that the fast food chain was the location of his first job.

What could have been seen as a motivational message, was widely mocked by thousands of Twitter users.

"My first job. And still the same great burger. Happy Sunday!" Bezos wrote over the weekend.

The accompanying picture showed himself with empty boxes from McDonald's as he finished a burger. Although over two hundred thousand people liked the tweet, over tens of thousands of people retweeted and commented their derision.

While many mocked Bezos' attempt to appear relatable, a lot of the criticism leveled at Bezos brought up the notorious story that Amazon warehouse workers have to take strict bathroom breaks.

Journalist Luke Savage commented on the picture with deadpan delivery: "Wow, he's an ordinary guy just like me."

Many others commented in the same vein, ironically stating how "relatable" Bezos is. "I am relatable and not a robot." @TheAliH wrote in quotation marks and all caps. British YouTuber known as JaackMaate was equally as sarcastic: "You're proper normal! Just like us mate. Bet it's great to work for your company!"

"Must suck realizing all the money in the world can't make you cool or interesting," @StuckintheIV wrote, getting thousands of likes for their sharp response.

@TytoNovo suggested that McDonald's appears to be the food of choice for billionaires after sharing images of Donald Trump and Bill Gates with the fast food.

"Jeff what happened here. Why is there so much sauce in the box?" @kingclubcapital asked, sharing a zoomed in picture of Bezos' McDonald's box. This started a debate in itself as people discussed the merit of using the box as a ketchup container.

Sticking up for Bezos, business reporter Darren Rovell compared the billionaire's wage at the time to his current net worth. "Jeff Bezos was paid $3.10 an hour for his work at McDonald's as a 16-year old. Today: Jeff Bezos Net Worth: $155 Billion. McDonald's Market Cap: $188 Billion," he wrote.

Bezos has previously spoken about his time working at McDonald's while he attended high school in Florida.

Speaking to Fast Company, Bezos shared what he learned from his experience there.

"I learned that it's really hard. I was a cook. They wouldn't let me anywhere near the customers. This was my acned-teenager stage. One of the great gifts I got from that job is that I can crack eggs with one hand."
