Joe Biden Money Laundering Allegations Detailed by Marjorie Taylor Greene

Marjorie Taylor Greene accused U.S. President Joe Biden of participating in a "money laundering scheme," as the House Oversight Committee revealed evidence of a $200,000 payment from his brother in 2018.

"Joe Biden has been busted and we just got the goods; we have the receipts," the Republican representative for Georgia said in a video message on Friday. "This is corruption at the highest level."

A photocopy of the check, from his brother Jim and sister-in-law, Sara, gives the reason for the compensation as a "loan repayment." Jim Biden's attorney has said that he was returning a loan his older brother gave him six weeks earlier, while a White House spokesperson said it was a "desperate" distraction from the turmoil over the role of House speaker.

On Friday, Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, who is leading an investigation into the Biden family's business dealings, claimed that in 2018 Jim Biden had received $600,000 in loans from Americore Health LLC, a "financially distressed and failing rural hospital operator."

He shared a bankruptcy court document from when the health firm went under from July 2022, when a trustee of Americore sued Jim Biden to return the loans, which said the payments had been made: "Based upon representations that his last name, 'Biden,' could 'open doors' and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections."

Comer highlighted that the $200,000 payment to Joe Biden occurred on the same day Jim Biden had received the same amount from Americore into his personal account, and said it raised questions as to whether the president "personally benefited from his family's shady influence peddling."

"We now have direct evidence that Joe Biden took payments—direct payments—from his brother Jim Biden in a complete money laundering scheme, and this links him to foreign investments," Greene claimed the same day. "They were cycling money through from foreign investments. This is the most explosive news."

It's still unclear how the $200,000 loan was linked to foreign investments, but the House Oversight Committee has focused its investigation on whether the Biden family benefited from international business deals. It has previously alleged that Hunter Biden received money from a Chinese company and peddled influence in Ukraine.

"Democrats have been giving us hell, the media has not believed our stories," Greene said. "On Oversight, we have been investigating Joe Biden directly and his corruption through his family businesses, because Joe Biden is the brand."

Newsweek approached Ian Sams, White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, via email for comment on Monday.

"Jamie Comer is pretty desperate to try to distract from Republicans' speaker mess," Sams previously wrote in response to Comer's allegations, referencing the recent ousting of Kevin McCarthy and Republicans' inability to select a replacement.

"It's a loan repayment from when President Biden loaned his brother money," he added. "When he was out of office in 2018, no less. It's right there on the check!"

James Biden's attorney, Paul Fishman, told CBS News that the House Oversight Committee's description of the check was "highly selective and misleading."

"The Committee has the bank documents that show both the loan Jim received from his brother in January 2018 and the repayment by check six weeks later," he said. "At no time did Jim involve his brother in any of his business relationships."

Comer acknowledged that the check could have been merely a loan repayment, but said: "It's still troubling that Joe Biden's ability to be paid back by his brother depended on the success of his family's shady financial dealings."
