John Krasinski Cast As Superman With Dwayne Johnson Playing His Sidekick Dog

John Krasinski has revealed he's joining the DC Universe as Superman alongside his canine companion Krypto to be played by Dwayne Johnson.

Henry Cavill's role as Superman in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) has looked precarious over the last few years but he has no need to worry about being replaced by Krasinski who is voicing the Man of Steel in the upcoming animated movie DC League of Super-Pets.

The Office actor-turned-action star announced the casting on his Twitter account while The Rock replied to him in typically comedic fashion. Johnson will play Superman's pet Krypto the Superdog, while other famous actors and comedians play the pets of legendary DC Comics superheroes. Krasinski shared a first look at his version of Superman with a preview image on social media.

John Krasinski as 'Bark Kent'

Krasinski admitted he'd accomplished a career ambition when he revealed he'd be teaming up with Johnson for the movie. Alongside the announcement that he'd be playing Superman in DC League of Super-Pets, he shared a still image of the movie which shows him flying alongside his dog Krypto, voiced by Johnson.

Hours later, Johnson, aka @TheRock, enthusiastically replied, using plenty of DC and pet-inspired puns to welcome his new co-star.

It's safe to assume that the upcoming DC League of Super-Pets won't have any crossover with the DC Extended Universe movies as Johnson is already scheduled to star in his own live-action movie as the character Black Adam.

Johnson was the first to announce his new role as Krypto the Superdog on social media on June 8, 2021, when he shared a short teaser trailer, which also revealed who else would star in the movie.

Who Else Appears in 'DC League of Super-Pets'?

Not for the first time, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart will star alongside each other in the upcoming animated movie, with both of them playing the pets of famous superheroes.

Hart will play Ace the Bat-Hound, Batman's dog, in DC League of Super-Pets alongside Johnson's Krypto. After these two, the pets get a little more obscure but the casting remains consistently strong.

Diego Luna (Narcos: Mexico) will play Chip, the pet squirrel of Green Lantern, Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) is the voice of Merton, The Flash's pet turtle while Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live) will voice Wonder Woman's pet pig PB. Comedian Marc Maron gets a human character as he plays famous DC villain Lex Luthor.

Other actors announced to appear in unconfirmed roles are Keanu Reeves, Kate McKinnon and Jameela Jamil.

Jared Stern writes and directs DC League of Super-Pets which is based on the comic book series Legion of Super-Pets by Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan. As well as voicing Krypto, Johnson is also serving as a producer.

DC League of Super-Pets is scheduled for release on May 20, 2022.
