Model Chrissy Teigen, one of the most prominent people on Twitter, refused to comment on Kanye West leaking his text exchange with John Legend. While tweeting she was not going to comment, she explained why.
"Everyone keeps asking me to comment on shit. Comment on psycho Tami Lasagna, whom I refuse to give the joy to, say something about [Real Housewives of Atlanta], speak up about Kanye. When it comes to people we know, we DO speak up. To THEM. not on Twitter. And sometimes, I guess it makes it to Twitter," she tweeted.
Legend, 39, texted West, 40, after he professed his controversial support of President Donald Trump in a Wednesday Twitter rant. Teigen, 32, was likely referring to the text message her husband sent to West. The rapper then leaked the message to Twitter Thursday.
"As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect you opinion," Legend's text said. "So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump's policies cause, especially to people of color. Don't let this be part of your legacy. You're the greatest artist of our generation."
West responded: "I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought."
The rapper added on Twitter: "I tweeted the John text to show that there are people around me that disagree with me and voice their opinion. I respect everyone's opinion but I stand my ground. If you feel something don't let peer pressure manipulate you."
Legend, seemingly unfazed that West posted their text exchange, took the opportunity to promote some new music. "Think freely. Think with empathy and context too. Your words and action have consequences. Much love. And since you're posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha," he wrote.
West promoted Legend's new single, "A Good Night," and said why his conversation with his friend was important to post online. "I really appreciate this dialogue with John Legend because I'm actually very empathetic. I'm still the kid from the telethon. I feel when people think of MAGA they don't think of empathy," he posted Thursday. "This is year one. We can't ad empathy to MAGA by hating. We can only ad empathy with love and time and truly hearing all sides."
