Actor Josh Radnor, who played Ted Moseby on How I Met Your Mother, will join the Grey's Anatomy cast as Dr. Meredith Grey's future love interest, People reported Wednesday. Grey, who is played by Ellen Pompeo, was notably intertwined with character Derek Shepherd, played by actor Patrick Dempsey, before his television death.

Twitter users have mixed reactions to the news of Radnor's casting. "IM F****** SHAKING OH MY GOD OH MY F****** GOD THE ONLY MAN I ALLOW TO HAVE HER HEART OH MY GOD I LOVE JOSH RADNOR ," an excited fan of Radnor's tweeted.

Others were skeptical about his appearance. "Love Josh Radnor but not for Mer," one user shared.

It is unclear if Radnor will be a long-time character on the show. His appearance is said to be for a blind date with Grey. The last season of the show teased a relationship between Grey and Dr. Andrew DeLuca. A sexual encounter between the two was shown, though it turned out to be a dream.

Some fans want to see Grey follow her quiet interest in DeLuca. "I finally get used to Mer & DeLuca and then Josh Radnor joins as the new McDreamy? Nope. Unacceptable," a tweet stated.

Two regulars on the series, Sara Drew, who played Dr. April Kepner, and Jessica Capshaw, who played Dr. Arizona Robbins, were let go at the end of Season 14. Kepner was let go during a day of filming. "It was in the afternoon, and I went back to my trailer and I did my crying and called my people," she told Deadline in August. "A whole bunch of people came into my trailer to give me hugs and cry with me and tell me they were so sad I was leaving."

Showrunner Krista Vernoff said the characters were cut because "they needed to downsize because they couldn't service all of the characters effectively," in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Oh whoopie doo #kristavernoff said There were too many characters on @GreysABC so she fired two women who both have been there for a long time but guess what? They are adding another character. A male. https://t.co/v3vpMQw1GV

A fan noted the cut in relation to Radnor's hiring. "Oh whoopie doo Krista Vernoff said there were too many characters on Grey's Anatomy so she fired two women who both have been there for a long time but guess what? They are adding another character. A male," the user stated.

Since appearing on How I Met Your Mother, which ended its nine-season run in 2014, has appeared in the movie The Seeker and Amazon Prime series Rise, according to the Internet Movie Database.
