Celebs Condemn Kanye West Over Antisemitism—Khloé Kardashian to Amy Schumer

Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) has been in the headlines in recent months for his social media posts and controversial public statements.

After publicly criticizing his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, taking aim at long-time collaborators, calling out celebrities, making false comments about George Floyd and his infamous White Lives Matter T-shirt at Paris Fashion Week, Ye has become further embroiled in controversy after posting antisemitic statements on social media, and standing by them in media interviews.

His Twitter and Instagram accounts have since been locked, and he has been dropped by Gap and Balenciaga and most recently, Adidas after the company announced it was "reviewing" its contract with the musician.

But all that has not stopped him from continuing to spread controversial messages.

On October 19, he appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored when he was asked whether he regretted threatening to go "death con 3 on Jewish people." Ye responded: "No, absolutely not. I fought fire with fire. I'm not here to get hosed down."

He later said he was "sorry for the people that I hurt" and "the confusion that I caused."

Over the weekend, The Goyim Defense League, an antisemitic and white supremacist group draped banners over Interstate 405 in Los Angeles. One of them read: "Kanye is right about the Jews."

Group members also made Nazi salutes.

In response, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón said on Twitter that antisemitism would not be tolerated, writing: "#WhiteSupremacy is a societal cancer that must be excised. This message is dangerous & cannot be normalized."

Now a host of famous faces, including Ye's former sister-in-law, Khloé Kardashian, have voiced their support for Jewish people, condemning his comments with some calling for Adidas to end its partnership with the Grammy-winning rapper.

Amy Schumer

A host of celebrities have been re-sharing images of a post by author Jess Seinfeld which reads: "I support my Jewish friends and the Jewish people."

Comedian and actress Amy Schumer was one of the first celebrities to re-share the image on Twitter, writing alongside the photo: "If you don't know what to post. Let's start with this. Do you know what the Jewish community is afraid this will lead to? 1 in 2 people don't know the holocaust happened. Stand up. #neveragain ⁦
@JessSeinfeld."

Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Kris and Kendall Jenner

Kim Kardashian, Ye's ex-wife, condemned hate speech in the midst of the controversy on Monday, October 24.

Posting on her Instagram stories, Kim Kardashian wrote: "Hate speech is never OK or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end."

Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and their mom Kris Jenner have been the only member of the Kardashian-Jenner family to condemn Ye's antisemitic statements. They simply re-shared Seinfeld's post on their Instagram stories, making their feelings known.

David Schwimmer

On his Instagram stories, Friends star David Schwimmer re-posted a video of Ye speaking on the Drink Champs podcast where he said: "The thing about me and Adidas is I can literally say antisemitic s**t and they can't drop me. I can say antisemitic things and Adidas can't drop me. Now what?"

Schwimmer captioned the clip "Now what" and tagged Adidas who had not yet canceled their contract with Ye.

He followed the video with a post calling for his followers to support the Anti-Defamation League and its plea for Adidas to "reconsider supporting the Ye product line and to issue a statement making clear that the Adidas company and community has no tolerance whatsoever for antisemitism."

This is not the first time Schwimmer has criticized Ye.

On October 11, Schwimmer wrote on Instagram: "Whether or not Kanye West is mentally ill, there's no question he is a bigot. His hate speech calls for violence against Jews. If you interpret his words any other way and defend him, guess what? You are racist. If we don't call someone as influential as Kanye out for his divisive, ignorant and antisemitic words then we are complicit."

Josh Gad

Frozen and Wolf Like Me star Josh Gad, also called for Adidas to end its partnership with Ye.

He re-shared the same clip as Schwimmer on Twitter, captioning the post: "This is not a good person. This is a person whose dangerous rhetoric continues to go unchecked. Hey @adidas, is this right? Can he single out a single faith and group of people with hatred and vitriol and it doesn't matter? Asking for a friend."

Florence Pugh

Oscar-winning actress Florence Pugh re-shared an image of the Goyim Defense League protest on her Instagram stories, writing: "absolutely appalling."

In a second post, she called for her followers to read a post by Tony-winning actor Ari'el Stachel, adding: "Any form of hate speech only encourages, it grows and spreads like a disease."

Kat Dennings

Kat Dennings, best known for her role as Max Black in 2 Broke Girls and Darcy Lewis in Thor and Wandavision, called for Adidas to take action, writing on Twitter: "The world is watching, @adidas."

Banks

Singer and songwriter Banks tweeted: "Please stop giving Kanye West a platform" before sharing an image of the protest on Interstate 405.

Alongside her post, she wrote: "So devastating. F*** Kanye west. This is so dangerous what he is doing."

Reese Witherspoon

On Monday, October 24, Reese Witherspoon tweeted: "Anti-semitism in any form is deplorable. In person. Online. Doesn't matter where. It's hate and it's unacceptable.

"Completely understand why my Jewish friends/colleagues are frightened for their families. This is a very scary time."

Sophie Turner

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner shared two posts on her Instagram stories. One is the Jesse Seinfeld image that reads: "I support my Jewish friends and the Jewish people."

Turner also shared a post from influencer Matt Bernstein, who posted the following comments on his Instagram main feed and called for Adidas to act.

The image Turner shared reads: "When celebrities amplify conspiracy theories and hate, condemn them. You might not take them seriously, but someone out there is. Antisemitism is no joke."
