Kanye West's new album Donda isn't the only hotly anticipated new release his fans are waiting for. At the premiere listening event for Donda at Atlanta's Mercedes Benz Stadium on July 22, West emerged from a tunnel almost two hours late and stood in the center of the stadium wearing a red puffer jacket.
After a second listening party, his tenth studio album has still yet to be released, but fans can get their hands on his striking coat. The "Yeezy Gap Round Jacket" is the latest item to be released as part of his Yeezy collaboration with Gap.
The red iteration is the third jacket to be released with the fashion chain, having previously made the same outerwear piece available in blue and black.
West was first spotted wearing the black version while attending a Balenciaga fashion show in Paris during Couture Fashion Week on July 7.
Former Gap CEO Mickey Drexler told Yahoo Finance Live that the 10-year apparel deal between West's fashion label and the chain "doesn't make any sense," but revealed that the jacket made $7 million in just one night.
When the collaboration between the two brands was announced, shares in Gap surged by 42 percent.
West's fashion house has previously been credited with increasing revenues for activewear brand Adidas having launched his first sneakers with the brand in 2015, the same year that the rapper told BET he was in $16 million in debt.
Just five years later, he was reportedly earning $100 million dollars in royalties through his luxury streetwear label's relationship with Adidas.
Sales continued to grow through the pandemic, increasing by 31 percent and achieving nearly $1.7 billion in annual revenue last year according to a document seen by Bloomberg.
How Can I Buy the Yeezy Gap Round Jacket?
The first jacket, in blue, was released on June 8 to coincide with West's 44th birthday.
It was available as a pre-order item online only and its release was teased with projections of the jacket appearing in cities across the U.S. including New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago.
The jacket has no zipper and comes in sizes XXS to XXXL. It retailed for $200 and quickly sold out. Shipping is expected to begin in Fall 2021.
Also made available for pre-order in July, the black colorway was only available for shoppers in the U.K., Japan and European Union.
The fiery red jacket is now available for pre-order from Gap's website. Like the previous two coats, it is made from recycled fabrics.
It retails for $200 and is expected to ship in Spring 2022.
