Kate Middleton's 'Iconic' Spotlight Moment Goes Viral

The Princess of Wales has become the subject of a new viral video after footage of the royal attending the Scottish coronation celebrations of King Charles III resurfaced on TikTok.

Charles was presented with the Honours of Scotland (the Scottish crown jewels) in a special ceremony hosted in Edinburgh on July 5, 2023, two months after his coronation, which took place at Westminster Abbey.

The king was accompanied to the ceremony by Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales who—when they are in Scotland—are referred to by their most senior Scottish titles, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.

For the event, Kate made a patriotic style statement, wearing an outfit made up completely in the color blue to match Scotland's flag, known as the Saltire.

During the ceremony at St Giles' Cathedral, there was a moment where the princess appeared to be completely illuminated by a shaft of sunlight which was picked up by a number of fans watching the official broadcast. This resulted in a number of viral images and videos, many of which attributed the cause to divine intervention.

Uploaded to TikTok by user princess__jo on January 5, the new social media post reflecting on the event, which includes the sunlight footage, has been viewed over 160,000 times.

In the compilation of clips, Kate is shown taking part in the royal procession at the start of the ceremony before taking her seat in the cathedral where the spotlight moment took place. Also included is footage of the princess speaking to officials and watching the military flypast in honor of the king from the forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The video has received in excess of 7,900 likes and over 160 comments, many of which praised Kate and her appearance at the event.

"Class and elegance personifed!" wrote one user.

"Iconic moment she's ready to be queen 👑," posted another, with a further comment reading: "Princess always looks beautiful 🥰."

The Saltire blue coat dress worn by Kate for the ceremony was first debuted at the Commonwealth Day service in March 2022, made by one of Princess Diana's favorite fashion houses, Catherine Walker & Co. The outfit was also worn by Kate for the royal Easter Sunday church service in 2023, held at St George's Chapel, Windsor.

The princess styled the coat dress with a sculptural hat by Philip Treacy and matching accessories.

Since taking on their new senior titles and roles within the monarchy after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Kate and Prince William have increased their working output including two official visits to Scotland.

The couple have a number of personal links to the country. It was the source of their romance in the early 2000s, when they met while studying art history at university in St Andrews.

The couple's early relationship was recently pulled into public focus as it featured as a main plot point in the final season of Netflix's hit royal drama, The Crown.
