Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx have maintained a relatively low-key relationship over the years, but the actress made headlines Wednesday by igniting speculation over whether they were engaged to be married. She was spotted wearing a massive diamond ring on her finger.

Holmes, 39, stepped out in New Orleans during a break from filming her upcoming film The Secret. The Dawson's Creek alum was photographed smiling immensely. Despite this, Holmes's representative has confirmed that the ring was simply a movie prop.

"Katie's not engaged to anyone besides her fictional movie fiancé, played by Jerry O'Connell," Holmes's rep told People.

Like Holmes, Foxx is filming in New Orleans as well. He's working on Netflix's upcoming film Power, which also stars actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Foxx was even spotted at Tulane University's rec center in early October.

Holmes and Foxx had transitioned their nearly decade-long friendship into a romantic relationship in 2013. She likely first met the 50-year-old Django Unchained actor through her former spouse Tom Cruise, who starred alongside Foxx in the 2004 drama Collateral. The trio even attended at Washington Redskins game together in 2006.

In 2015, Us Weekly broke the news that they were in a relationship. The outlet reported how they had been "going strong" for two years. The couple was first spotted hanging out together in August 2013 at Ellen DeGeneres's star-studded party in the Hamptons.

Holmes and Foxx have aimed to keep their involvement under the radar. The pair has even gone through great lengths to hide their relationship from the public, including when Holmes apparently met up with Foxx in Los Angeles wearing a disguise. The couple also veers away from addressing their relationship in the media as well, such as the time when Foxx exited an interview after ESPN's Michael Smith asked him at NBA Allstar Weekend in February whether the pair had played "basketball for Valentine's Day, like some real Love & Basketball."

Holmes and Foxx rarely appear together publicly. The couple was spotted at Foxx's 50th birthday party in December 2017, they were seated beside each other at the Clive Davis and Recording Academy Pre-GRAMMY Gala in January and they arrived hand-in-hand for Foxx's Lumiere de Vie Hommes Launch yacht party in October.

While Holmes has abstained from speaking about her relationship with Foxx, the actress has openly addressed her previous involvement with her ex-husband Tom Cruise. In 2014, she spoke on the former couple's 2012 divorce in an interview with People.

"I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," Holmes told People. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."
