Kelly Preston, Actress Wife of John Travolta, Dies From Breast Cancer

Actress Kelly Preston died from breast cancer Sunday. She was 57.

Her death was reported late Sunday night through People magazine, which obtained the information through a family representative.

"On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer," the representative told People. "Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends.

"She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time."

She was married to John Travolta. She is survived by two children: Ella, 20, and Benjamin, 9. She and Travolta had another son, Jett, who died at age 16 in 2009.

Preston studied acting at the University of Southern California, and began her acting career with minor roles in TV, including For Love and Honor, before landing a major movie role in Mischief.

She played parts in other movies in the 1980s and 90s, including SpaceCamp, Twins, Jerry Maguire and For Love of the Game. Preston played Victoria Gotti in her final film, Gotti, in which she played the wife of John Gotti, the mafia boss played by her real-life husband, Travolta.

She was born in Hawaii in 1962 as Kelly Kamalelehua Smith. She met Travolta, who later proposed to her on New Year's Eve leading into 1991 in Gstaad, Switzerland. Travolta offered a six-carat, yellow and white diamond ring, which she accepted.

Preston and Travolta married in September of 1991, when she was two months pregnant with Jett. Preston and Travolta later got married for a second time, this time stateside in Daytona Beach, Florida.

On their official 28th wedding anniversary last September, Travola wrote this to his wife on his Instagram page:

"Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife ♥️ @therealkellypreston."

Preston responded with a heart-tugging note to her husband who shot to superstardom after the movie Grease.

"To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally... made me laugh harder than any other human being possible... shared the most beautiful highs and at times low. You're a dream Daddio and make life so much fun!! I trust my love with you implicitly... with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens... I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary @johntravolta."

Two years ago, Preston told People she loved the spontaneity of her marriage with "Johnny" Travolta.

"I think it's when Johnny just whisks me away, and we'll jump on the airplane and go out to dinner, and I don't know where we're going. It's good to be married to a pilot!" she said.
