Kellyanne Conway on Hillary Clinton Running Again in 2020: 'Dear God, Please, Yes'

The suggestion that 2016's presidential nominee Hillary Clinton could run again in 2020 was embraced yesterday by White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.

"Dear God, please, yes," Conway tweeted in response to an opinion editorial published in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend, written by Democrat pollsters Mark Penn and Andrew Stein. Penn was chief strategist for Clinton's failed 2008 presidential election campaign.

Headlined "Hillary Will Run Again," the op-ed asserted that Clinton's 2020 run was "more than 30 years in the making" and said she would "fight this out until the last dog dies.

"After two years of brooding…Mrs. Clinton has come unbound," the pair wrote, claiming that Clinton would "easily capture" the 2020 nomination. They added: "She will not allow this humiliating loss at the hands of an amateur to end the story of her career. You can expect her to run for president once again. Maybe not at first, when the legions of Senate Democrats make their announcements, but definitely by the time the primaries are in full swing."

Conway's sardonic stance against Clinton's hypothetical 2020 run was not the first time she had been critical of the veteran Democratic Party politician and former U.S. Secretary of State.

On November 4, Conway branded Clinton "the queen of abortion" during a segment on Fox & Friends, alluding to her focus on reproductive rights of women in 2016. In October, Conway spoke out after Clinton told CNN it was difficult for Democrats to be civil with Republicans. Clinton said that "civility can start again" if the Democrats won back the House and/or Senate.

"Usually, when she opens her mouth, respectfully, she offends at least one half of the country, and she did it again," Conway responded on Fox & Friends the next day. "But I think her discourse sounds a little bit dangerous. I don't like the implications there.

"It's one thing to call us deplorable, irredeemable, laugh at people who don't have all the privileges that she has had with her Ivy League law degree and through her marriage to a much more popular man who actually was a two-term president that she'll never be."

In September 2016, Clinton referred to Trump supporters as a "basket of deplorables."

Speaking to Recode's Kara Swisher last month, she denied having any real intention to run for office again. When pressed, however, she conceded: "Well, I would like to be president."

Not that Trump—who beat Clinton in 2016 after winning the Electoral College—appeared too concerned. "I'd be very happy with Hillary," he told Fox's Laura Ingraham last month when asked about his dream opponent. "I don't see anybody that I wouldn't enjoy running against."
