Kenny Chesney Will Miss CMA Awards Due to Death in Family: Report

Country music superstar Kenny Chesney is expected to miss tonight's CMA Awards due to a death in the family, according to the Country Music Association.

Chesney is nominated for the show's top award: Entertainer of the Year.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the singer won the Musical Event of the Year Award for his duet with David Lee Murphy "Everything's Gonna Be Alright."

"CMA Musical Event of the Year winner & Entertainer of the Year nominee @KennyChesney will be unable to appear on tonight's telecast due to a death in the family," the Country Music Association tweeted on Wednesday afternoon, hours before the ceremony's broadcast.

Chesney was not scheduled to perform during this year's CMA Awards, but was scheduled to be in attendance as a nominee.

The singer acknowledged his award victory on Twitter Wednesday, but made no mention of cancelling his appearance.

"Sometimes you hear songs & they just feel good," Chesney wrote on Twitter. "Occasionally one that feels good says something that people need to hear. That's how I felt about Everything's Gonna Be Alright when I heard it. Proud to have been part of this with my friend @davidleemurphy. #musicaleventoftheyear."

The award show will be hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for the 11th consecutive year and is scheduled to feature performances by Underwood, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and others.

The CMA Awards will air live on ABC Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
