Kim Kardashian Hair Hack Mocked

Kim Kardashian has come under fire once again, this time because her sister posted one of her haircare hacks.

Kardashian reportedly uses a rice water treatment to strength her hair and the method was posted to sister Kourtney Kardashian's wellness website, Poosh.

"Thick, shiny, and strong hair—the qualities we aim for when caring for our mane. The secret to achieving luscious strands? Rice water. Kourt recently learned this DIY trick from Kim, who's been doing this treatment on her hair and has seen a noticeable difference in growth and thickness," the Poosh website read.

The method, which first originated in China, Japan and Southeast Asia, requires the saving of water used when cooking rice. The starchy water is ripe with vitamins and minerals, which help grow hair, improve elasticity, increase volume, tame frizz, protect hair from damage and even cure dandruff, according to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Poosh also posted a video of Kim showing off her long strands to Instagram, but people were quick to slam the reality star.

"But that's not Kim's real hair it would make better sense to show her actual real hair!🙂," commented one person.

Another added: "Wigs. Her secret is wigs 🤷‍♀️."

And a third wrote: "The rice water hack didn't come from Beyoncé or Kim k it came from Asian people so people need to go sit down somewhere!"

Others defended the post and Kardashian by pointing out the Poosh article correctly attributed the origins of the hair hack, with one person writing: "They said that in the article, they're not claiming to have invented it, just saying she uses it."

"Many eastern countries have used the all-natural recipe for years, reaping its healing and nourishing perks. Below, we're breaking down the moisturizing and strengthening benefits of the minerals and vitamins in rice water and instructions on how to do the hair-enhancing treatment at home," the website read.

Newsweek contacted Kardashian's representatives by email for comment.

Kardashian rose to fame on the E! reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians, alongside her family. She has gone on to become one of the most recognizable people in the world and is worth more than $1 billion dollars, according to Forbes. Part of her fortune was amassed from her TV deals and endorsements, but also much of it came from her SKIMS shape wear line and cosmetic brand.

She was married to rapper Kanye West— now known as Ye— from 2016 to 2022 and they share four children.
