Fact Check: Bogus KSI vs. Tommy Fury Appeal Claim Spreads on Social Media

Superstar influencer KSI's loss in his recent celebrity fight against Tommy Fury has led to outcry among his fans who believe the famous YouTuber was robbed.

Fury won a majority decision after a six-rounder which KSI called a "robbery," asking the winner, "How many jabs did you land?"

While the internet influencer said in a post-match interview he would like to appeal the decision, one viral TikTok suggested that authorities that governed the match had already overturned it in his favor.

The Claim

A TikTok by user Has.725, posted on October 16, 2023, which has been viewed 6 million times, with the caption "Ksi fight overturned," included a letter from the "Association of Boxing Commissions."

The letter said: "We, the Association of Boxing Commissions, are issuing this public statement to inform you of a significant decision regarding the highly anticipated boxing match between KSI and Tommy Fury.

"After a comprehensive review of the bout, including careful analysis of match footage and evaluation of the judging process, the Association of Boxing Commissions has determined that irregularities occurred during the fight between KSI and Tommy Fury.

"In light of these findings, and in adherence to our commitment to upholding fairness and integrity within the sport, we have made the decision to overturn the initial result of the match.

"Therefore, it is our official ruling that KSI is declared the winner of the bout."

The Facts

It's not clear whether KSI's team will appeal the decision of Saturday's fight, despite the influencer's previous assertion.

In any case, the viral TikTok, alleging that his appeal was successful, is bogus. Apart from the vanishingly slim chance that the decision would be overturned in a matter of days after the fight, the authority quoted in the letter has nothing to do with changing the result.

The Association of Boxing Commissions, which is quoted in the letter, is a U.S. sporting organization and was not involved in regulating or administering the score for the KSI vs. Tommy Fury fight.

It's also not clear whether the Association of Boxing Commissions released a letter or even commented about the match. It has not posted any commentary to its social media channels or website.

The KSI vs. Tommy Fury match was overseen by the Professional Boxing Association, a U.K. governing body for the sport. There has been no public statement from the association that it has received or accepted an appeal.

The TikTok presented no other evidence that Saturday's decision had been re-examined or overturned. While Fury's win was changed from a majority to a unanimous decision after a scorecard error, the outcome of the fight otherwise remained the same.

Newsweek reached out to the Professional Boxing Association and the Association of Boxing Commissions for comment.
