The nominations for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards showed a lot of love to Oscar favorites La La Land and Moonlight, as well as a new wave of television shows including HBO's breakout hit Westworld and Netflix smash Stranger Things.

Fresh from its success at the Critics' Choice Awards Sunday night, where it won eight trophies, Damien Chazelle's La La Land earned seven nominations including best picture (musical or comedy) as well as nods to actors Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Chazelle was nominated for best director and best screenplay.

The all-singing, all-dancing ode to Hollywood is closely followed by director Barry Jenkins's poetic coming-of-age drama Moonlight, which earned six nominations. Jenkins was honored for his direction and screenplay, while actors Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali both earned nods in supporting categories.

In the television race, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story received five nominations, continuing to earn high critical acclaim following its achievements at the Emmy Awards in September. Actors Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance, Sterling K. Brown and John Travolta were all recognized.

New dramas Westworld, Stranger Things, The Crown and This Is Us also had healthy turnout in the nominations.

Westworld was nominated for best drama television series, while actors Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton won nominations in the best actress and supporting actress fields respectively.

Stranger Things, Netflix's biggest new hit of the year, also earned a best drama nomination and a best actress nomination for Winona Ryder in what has been hailed as her comeback. The actor played Joyce Byers, the mother of missing child Will Byers who is desperate to find her son.

The Golden Globes, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, air on NBC on January 8.
