Labrador Puppy Enjoying Her First Ever Trip to the Beach Is Just 'Too Cute'

Introducing a dog to a new location like a dog park or hiking trail can be hit or miss, as all dogs have different interests and reactions. But more often than not, dogs are adaptable, ready for any new adventure with their owner.

One puppy took no time at all to adjust to her very first beach day, giving TikTok users a sudden urge for summertime again. In the video posted to TikTok account @pawsohcyfoh, the Labrador puppy furiously digs through the sand just like a little kid. She then starts lounging in the hole she made like a true beach bum queen.

"Proof that first beach day turned out to be successful," the owner wrote in the caption of the video, which has received over 2.2 million views.

The English Labrador named Hana has truly figured out what it means to soak up the sun as she's unafraid of getting sandy and relaxing in the sunshine.

"Deep enough for the pup to lay down and relax," pointed out TikTok user @inungbissett. The creator responded by saying, "She tried to adjust in several times so her butt could comfortably fit in."

Another user commented, "Looking like a beach baby already, lucky humans."

Sand Dangers for Dogs

It's important to follow precautions to keep your dog safe while he or she is out enjoying some fun in the sun. For starters, dog owners should come prepared for a beach day with canine sunscreen, water, dog bowls, towels, and a life jacket. But aside from bringing the much-needed equipment, it's just as important to keep an eye on them.

Any day at the beach will certainly include sand, whether dogs are rolling around in it or they're playing with toys that can get sandy. Vets warn that too much sand can actually be harmful to dogs. This is known as intestinal sand impaction.

Although you might not notice your dog purposely eating sand, your pup might accidently be ingesting tiny particles of sand over time from digging, grabbing sandy tennis balls, or licking their paws. When the sand builds up and gets wet, which it will once your dog swallows, it can cause a block in the entire intestinal tract. Intestinal sand impaction can be potentially life-threatening and will typically require an emergency vet visit.

Symptoms of Sand Impaction

Keep an eye on your dog following a trip to the beach to see if he or she show any signs of intestinal sand impaction. If so, the American Kennel Club recommends getting your dog to the vet immediately. These signs include:

  • Panting
  • Vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Restlessness
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Constipation

Other risks associated with a beach day for dogs could include heatstroke, sunburn, hot sand, jellyfish, and strong ocean currents.
