Laughter at How Woman in 20s Checks Her Bank Balance—'Universal Experience'

It's always surprising when that habit you always thought was unique turns out to be common to everyone.

A woman in her 20s has left the internet in stitches with a video in which she says how she makes sure nobody can tell she is checking her balance before ordering takeout.

In the hilarious clip shared on TikTok earlier in March under the username @madisonannjewel, she can be seen pretending to be messaging someone when in reality she is just checking her bank.

A caption shared with the post reads: "When someone sees my screen brightness down thinking I'm trying to hide a conversation, but I'm actually checking my bank account to see if I need to transfer money for McDonald's. Don't bring it up."

With prices of food constantly on the rise, times are tough for most people. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) says that the price index for grocery store or supermarket food purchases increased by 0.7 percent from December 2023 to January 2024, which was 1.2 percent higher than the previous year.

At the same time, the index prices for restaurant-bought food increased by 0.5 percent in January 2024 and was 5.1 percent higher than the same time last year.

"In 2024, all food prices are predicted to increase 2.9 percent, with a prediction interval of 0.5 to 5.3 percent," the USDA website added.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 2.8 million views and more than 506,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Marleny, commented: "I transferred too much I no longer have an existing savings account." And Jennifer Espina posted: "I have a bad habit of doing this right before I order and start panicking when the app won't load."

Maddie wrote: "A savings account become pointless to me [because] all I do is transfer all the money out."

Naynay2541 added: "Went through drive thru today without checking just pure hope and adrenaline and it worked haha."

Another user, Onslaught, commented: "I never keep any money in the main part of my account. Always maintained out the back in some sort of 'space', just in case."

And Laura | UGC | Australia added: "I thought turning my screen brightness down while I check my bank was a me thinggg."
