Woman Who Dumped DiCaprio at 25 Married Younger Man: "Joke's On You, Leo"

Leonardo DiCaprio's ex-girlfriend is speaking out more than 20 years after their split.

Kristen Zang—who dated the Wolf of Wall Street star, 47, from 1995 to 1999—revealed she's now married to a younger man amid the "ageist" chatter surrounding the actor.

"I'm a very private person, much like my ex-boyfriend," the 48-year-old wrote in an essay for People. "But this past week, for the first time, I have felt compelled to share a few things. Leo and I dated for four years. I met him casually through friends when I was 19 years old and we started dating when we were both 21."

The former actress and model continued, "We were kids. My friends knew his friends, and Hollywood back then was like a big high school. It was, dare I say, an innocent time. We were nerds. Good looking nerds with glamorous jobs, but still nerds. We went to amusement parks, concerts, museums and the movies. I was with him when he made Romeo & Juliet, Titanic and The Beach."

Zang recalled how she would "visit Leo for long periods of time" while he was working on projects in various countries around the world.

She added that he was a "very sweet and thoughtful boyfriend," and despite some "hard times" and a brief breakup, they were "happy."

Recently, multiple reports claimed DiCaprio and his model girlfriend Camila Morrone called it quits, weeks after she turned 25. The duo initially met in 2008 after Al Pacino introduced them, but they didn't spark dating rumors until nearly a decade later. The pair's paths crossed again at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and they began dating shortly after.

Following news of their uncoupling, social media lit up with memes and jokes, claiming the Academy Award winner cycles through girlfriends when they get to their mid-20s. In addition to Morrone, DiCaprio has been linked to fellow stars including Blake Lively, Kelly Rohrbach and Nina Agdal, who were all 25 years old at the time of their breakups.

Zang hit back at the "online comments," noting that as a society "we can and should do better."

That said, the Michigan native admitted she and DiCaprio broke up four months after her 25th birthday.

"Ha, I know what you're thinking," she joked.

"It was a choice I made," Zang said about their split. "I don't how to explain it exactly, I just felt like I was ready for our relationship to be done. It was like I had outgrown that version of myself, the Hollywood high school girl. I wanted to figure out who I was and what I wanted."

These days, Zang leads a quieter life out of the spotlight on the West Coast.

"I live in the countryside of Oregon with my hot husband, Shea, who's a builder and also happens to be younger than me (joke's on you, Leo), my really cute rescue mutt, Harley Dee, and I own a locally-sourced dog food company," she said. "Turns out, I was barely scratching the surface of life at 25."
