Libertarians Call for 'Mass Noncompliance' With Joe Biden's Vaccine Mandate

The Libertarian Party strongly criticized President Joe Biden's decision to introduce vaccine mandates and urged "mass noncompliance" with the new requirements.

Biden issued two executive orders on Thursday requiring federal employees and contractors to get vaccinated against COVID and asked the Department of Labor to introduce an emergency rule ordering businesses with more than 100 employees to ensure their workers are vaccinated or tested weekly.

The official Twitter account of the Libertarian Party criticized the new mandates following the announcement on Thursday and several of the party's state branches did the same.

The party tweeted: "We told you we are #AlreadyAgainstTheNextMandate. With Biden's latest EO he is directly attacking the bodily autonomy of millions of people."

"This is not leadership. This is abuse of power. This is not a representative democracy. This is tyranny," they said.

In a later tweet, the Libertarian Party wrote: "Vaccine mandates will not lead to wider trust in the science, it will only lead to #MassNonCompliance."

In response to a tweet from Biden's official Twitter account on Thursday, the party wrote: "You're not a dictator, you can't force vaccines on people."

The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire shared an Associated Press (AP) article about Biden's announcement and tweeted: "We will Not Comply! Nullify all federal mandates! #MassNonCompliance."

The Texas Libertarian Party said: "Nothing brings libertarians together more than than telling government to stick it's mandates where the sun don't shine. #massnoncompliance."

The Libertarian Party of Washington pointed out that they were not opposed to vaccinations, but objected to the mandates.

"We are not acti-vax [sic]. We are pro-bodily autonomy," the Washington party wrote. "This is not simply about this mandate, but the precedent it sets. The line has been drawn, and the government has crossed it. We stand now with all those who believe in self ownership. #StandWithUs #MassNonCompliance."

The party's branch in Connecticut shared a photo and quote from former Representative Ron Paul, a noted Libertarian, tweeting: "Our time is now. Let not our grandchildren say we stood silent as tyranny stalked."

"We are not anti vaccine, if you want the vaccine you should get it, we are anti forced mandate. You should make the final decision for your health. #MassNonCompliance," the Tennessee Libertarian Party tweeted.

The new vaccine requirements Biden announced on Thursday will affect around 100 million people or about two-thirds of the U.S. workforce. The president spoke directly to the 80 million or so people who are still not vaccinated.

"My message to unvaccinated Americans is this: What more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see? We've made vaccinations free, safe and convenient," Biden said.

"The vaccine is FDA approved. Over 200 million Americans have gotten at least one shot. We've been patient, but our patience is wearing thin. And your refusal has cost all of us," he said.
