Little Caesars Fires Employee for Allegedly Writing 'Gay' on Two Men's Pizza Receipt

An employee from a Little Caesars franchise in Virginia was fired after they reportedly wrote the word "gay" on two men's pizza receipt.

Rosman Harris and Marcus Robertson told WTVR they went to Little Caesars in Henrico, Virginia, on Friday and placed an order for pizza and then left for 15 minutes while their order was being prepared. Harris told the news station he noticed the word "gay" on his receipt when they returned to pick up their order.

"I was baffled, and it made me semi-angry because I feel like it's 2019 and we're still having to deal with this," Harris told WTVR.

The two men, who are cousins, said the cashier never asked the two men for their names but claimed that other customers were asked for their names when they placed their orders, WTVR reported. They told the news station they are both gay but did not mention their sexuality while placing their orders.

"It was this preconceived notion of, 'Oh, these are gay men.' So, why would you write that on the ticket? I'm not understanding that," said Harris.

Harris told WTVR that he asked the manager of the franchise why the word was written on the receipt but said he never received an answer. The cousins told the news station they learned that the cashier who wrote the word had been fired on Monday. Robertson said he hopes that this incident will teach Little Caesars to train their employees better, WTVR reported.

"Because for something like this to happen, not only does it impact your business, it impacts your image as well," said Robertson.

Newsweek has reached out to Little Caesars for comment on the incident but did not hear back in time for publication. In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, a spokeswoman from the company confirmed that the employee was fired.

"Little Caesars maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations of professional conduct," Communications Director Tina Orozco said in a statement. "This is a highly unusual, isolated situation at a store locally owned and operated by a franchisee. The franchise owner took immediate action to investigate this matter and has terminated the employment of the individual involved in the incident."

On Sunday, a server from a restaurant in Texas said they did not receive a tip from their customer, but saw they had written: "My tip is to build the (expletive) wall now!" instead. Hehsus Baeza, a bartender at Tkilaz Mexican Restaurant Bar in Midland, Texas, posted a picture of the receipt to his personal Facebook page.
