Liz Cheney Gets Last Laugh Over Marjorie Taylor Greene

Ahead of the December 5 release of former Representative Liz Cheney's new book, Oath and Honor, Amazon lists the book as a number one bestseller while Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's new book, MTG, has plummeted down the bestsellers list.

Cheney, a Wyoming Republican who chaired the House Republican Conference, lost her reelection bid to a hard-right GOP challenger in 2022 after she became one of former President Donald Trump's most outspoken critics.

Cheney also has routinely criticized Greene and the broader hard-right faction of the Republican Party. In the new book, Cheney calls attention to the GOP's "cowardice" regarding to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, noting how so many were willing to support Trump, whom she calls "the most dangerous man ever to inhabit the Oval Office," according to CNN.

Newsweek reached out to Cheney via email for comment.

The book provides an in-depth look at her estrangement from the former president and the GOP in the aftermath of the riot, the Associated Press said.

"The last two years have shown us once again that our constitutional republic is not self-sustaining," Cheney said in a statement released by Little, Brown and Company in April.

"It survives only because of the courage and honor of individual Americans. When history looks back on this time, each elected official will have to answer the questions: Did we do our duty? Were we faithful to our oath of office?"

According to the publisher's description, Cheney tells the story of "the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol."

Greene's book, which claims to reveal "the battles she fights in the halls of Congress and beyond," is now number 5,840 on Amazon, according to figures from the retail giant on Wednesday. It is number 15 in Political Commentary & Opinion and number 45 in Women's Biographies.

Newsweek reached out to Greene via email for comment.

According to the publisher's description, the book "shares the story of her incredible ascension from small town business owner to MAGA firebrand! Known for her humor and honesty, MTG offers a never before seen glimpse at her decision to give up private sector success for public service, her unfiltered views on the most important issues facing our nation, and the personal sacrifices that come with being 'the most dangerous woman in Washington.' No other book pulls back the curtain on Washington, the swamp, and the Democrat political elite like MTG."

Greene has also faced a number of negative reviews for her book, while some have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on the difference in how Cheney's book ranks versus Greene's.

X user Jane of the North said: "Nearly a week after its release, Marjorie Taylor Greene's book is at the very bottom of Amazon's bestseller list. Liz Cheney's book is at the very top."
