'Loki' Episode 5 Recap: MCU Easter Eggs Revealed

Episode 5 of Loki introduced plenty of intrigue, plot development and characters to keep fans occupied but eagle-eyed viewers will have spotted a ton of Marvel Easter eggs making them point at the screen like a Leonardo DiCaprio meme.

"Journey Into Mystery" introduced Classic Loki, Kid Loki and Alligator Loki, and also set our Loki and Sylvie on their way to an epic finale in next week's episode on Disney+.

Before that arrives though, revisit Episode 5 and try to spot all of the clever nods to other Marvel heroes and storylines hidden throughout the land known as The Void. Here are a few you may have missed, and the explanation for some of the more obscure ones.

Thanoscopter

You may have spotted the glaring black letters written across a crashed yellow helicopter, but did you know that the Mad Titan actually did drive this helicopter in the comic books?

It was first included in an issue of Spider-Man in 1979 before being revived in the self-referential world of Deadpool in 2015.

The Thanoscopter can be seen in Loki as the five Lokis are entering their secret hideout.

Throg

When the camera pans through the ground, buried in dirt is a small creature trying to break out of a glass jar which has a label on it reading "T365." We can also clearly see Thor's hammer Mjolnir buried just above it.

The creature inside the jar is actually Frog Thor, or Throg as he was later known. Within the comics, Loki turned Thor into a frog and it became a continuous story line within the Thor comics, one of them is issue #365.

There's also mention of Loki turning Thor into a frog in the MCU. In Thor: Ragnarok, during the play staged by Loki, a dying Loki (Matt Damon) reminisces with Thor (Luke Hemsworth) about the time he turned him into a frog.

Even though it's just a frog version, this is the first time we've seen Thor or any other Avenger in this series of Loki.

Stark Tower

The ruins of Stark Tower are first seen in the post-credits scene of Episode 4 but appear again in "Journey Into Mystery."

Geographically it's hard to pin down exactly where the characters are since there are ships, buildings and the Egyptian Sphinx but one building shipped straight from New York is the remains of Stark Tower as seen in the MCU.

However the building seen in Loki doesn't say Stark across the side, instead it reads Qeng. This in itself could be a clue to who the main villain will turn out to be in this series.

Yellowjacket Helmet

The Ant-Man villain makes an unexpected appearance in the Disney+ series Loki—well the remains of his helmet does at least.

Last seen going sub-atomic at the end of Ant-Man, this character could shrink down to minute sizes, but it seems here that his helmet has somehow been enlarged to cover a portion of the landscape.

Shield Helicarrier and the Dark Aster

Two behemoths of aviation appear worse for wear on The Void's landscape. The first one we see is the recognizable engine of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier which has been featured in The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The second ship which appears to be laying dormant is Ronan's Dark Aster. This wide black ship featured heavily in Guardians of the Galaxy where the heroes crashed it to the ground.

More Easter Eggs

It could be argued that the presence of Kid Loki, President Loki and the rebuilding of Asgard by Classic Loki are Easter eggs too.

There are even more nods to Marvel folklore scattered around the desolate landscape in "Journey Into Mystery." This episode is to Loki what "Black Museum" is to the Black Mirror series.
