West Ham United will ban 200 supporters from the London Stadium following crowd trouble during the EFL Cup victory over Chelsea on Wednesday evening, according to reports.

West Ham and Chelsea supporters clashed during stoppage time, with seats ripped up and bottles and coins thrown.

Police made seven arrests, while West Ham issued a statement "unreservedly condemning" the violence. Karren Brady, the club's vice-chairman, said West Ham did "everything in its power" to minimize crowd trouble.

The Guardian reported on Friday that West Ham is preparing to ban 200 of the supporters involved in the disturbances. The club has CCTV footage of the clashes.

The London Stadium, formerly the Olympic Stadium and site of many of Britain's great sporting triumphs from the summer of 2012, has faced accusations of being unfit for purpose for Premier League football.

Security and stewarding is not handled by West Ham, the permanent tenant, but by E20 Stadium LLP, a partnership between Newham Borough Council and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).

West Ham banned alcohol sales outside the stadium for Wednesday's game, although that measure did not prove sufficient in preventing the ugly scenes.
