Ronna McDaniel Resignation Sparks MAGA Celebration

Ronna McDaniel's resignation as the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) has sparked celebration from the supporters of the MAGA movement.

Former President Donald Trump's fans rejoiced in Monday's news that McDaniel was stepping down from her position after losing the Republican primary frontrunner's support.

"Ronna McDaniel officially announces her resignation as RNC chair...Bout f***ing time," conservative political commentator Gunther Eagleman said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

"Ronna Romney McDaniel is no longer the Chair of the RNC. GOOD BYE AND GOOD RIDDANCE," Ryan Fournier, the co-founder and acting national chairman of Students for Trump, wrote.

McDaniel, the second woman to serve as RNC chair and longest serving chair since the Civil War, announced Monday that she was resigning after seven years of leadership. She said she would make her departure at the party's spring training meeting in Houston, Texas, to "allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing."

Her resignation is expected to take effect March 8, three days after Super Tuesday.

In response, some MAGA supporters questioned why McDaniel would wait until after the biggest primary day of the year instead of leaving immediately.

"RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel to resign after Super Tuesday. Why wait?" popular conservative X user Brian Davis asked.

Conservative political strategist Joey Mannarino wrote, "Bye, Ronna McDaniel. Absolutely insufferable human being. No one so sad to see her go."

Although she had been hand-picked by Trump shortly after his 2016 win, McDaniel has fallen out of favor with the former president, who has instead endorsed current North Carolina GOP Chair and RNC general counsel Michael Whatley to replace McDaniel. He has also endorsed his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as RNC co-chair.

"It has been the honor and privilege of my life to serve the Republican National Committee for seven years as Chairwoman to elect Republicans and grow our Party," McDaniel said in a statement.

"The RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition," she added. "I remain committed to winning back the White House and electing Republicans up and down the ballot in November."

Pro-Trump pundit Bill Mitchell called McDaniel "one of the worst leaders in the party's history" in response to the news, saying that since she took over as chairwoman, "Republicans have experienced nothing but misery."

Mitchell also criticized the RNC chair for not being more vocally supportive of Trump and the committee's spending under her leadership.

Lara Trump likewise railed against McDaniel for her use of GOP donations during her CPAC speech last week, saying that, "If elected as co-chair of the RNC, I can promise you we will not be giving blank checks to career political consultants and vendors. Every penny of every dollar donated will go towards one thing: winning."

McDaniel defended her record on Monday.

"Some of my proudest accomplishments include firing Nancy Pelosi, winning the popular vote in 2022, creating an Election Integrity Department, building the committee's first small dollar grassroots donor program, strengthening our state parties through our Growing Republican Organizations to Win program, expanding the Party through minority outreach at our community centers, and launching Bank Your Vote to get Republicans to commit to voting early," she said in her statement.
