MAGA Furious at Border Deal Backed by Republican Senators: 'Surrender'

Several MAGA-aligned Republicans on Saturday lashed out against a newly proposed border security bill that had the backing of some Senate GOP members.

Security at the southern border with Mexico has been an increasingly prominent GOP talking point, with Republicans claiming that surges in migrant crossings in the last several years have amounted to a "crisis" or an "invasion," as opposed to their Democratic colleagues, who have pushed for streamlined processes for asylum-seeking migrants. These GOP lawmakers have consistently been critical of President Joe Biden's handling of the issue and have attempted to make stricter laws a major requirement for new government funding deals.

On Saturday, supposed details of a developing Senate border security deal were leaked by the Immigration Accountability Project, a political advocacy group dedicated to stricter border security policies, of the sort typically favored by conservatives. According to an infographic from Fox News that aired on Friday night during The Ingraham Angle, which was circulated by Republicans on Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, the deal would allegedly include setting an allowance of 5,000 migrant crossings per day into the United States, grant work permits to the adult children of H-1B visa holders, and automatically grant work permits to undocumented migrants as soon as they are released from custody.

Negotiations for the deal are being led by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma. Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, has also voiced support for the ongoing negotiations.

None of these alleged provisions could be confirmed by Newsweek, as the text of the deal has yet to be officially released. Newsweek reached out to lawmakers involved with the deal via email for comment.

Despite the unofficial nature of the reported details, several MAGA-aligned GOP lawmakers have nonetheless spoken out against the deal across various social media posts.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!!! This is NOT a border deal! This is a border SURRENDER!!" Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia posted to X. "Any elected U.S. politician that supports this doesn't represent Americans, they represent the rest of the world! Don't bring it to the floor, put it through a paper shredder!"

"The Senate Amnesty Bill is a nightmare," Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida wrote in his own post. "It gives legal status to illegal aliens who have gamed our system and broken our laws. It rolls out the red carpet for 5,000 illegals EVERY DAY, forever. It's hard enough to stop the far-left's state-sponsored invasion of our Southern Border, and it's even harder when you're pulling Senator Langford's daggers out of your back. I oppose the Senate Amnesty Deal and will work to see its defeat."

"Senate Republicans are working with Chuck Schumer on a secret 'deal' for AMNESTY & work permits for illegal immigrants," Representative Mary Miller of Illinois wrote. "I will vote NO on the Senate Republican amnesty surrender deal. Secure the border, deport, and IMPEACH! Put America first!"
