Is There Mail on July 4th? USPS, FedEx Post Services on Independence Day

The beloved annual holiday, the Fourth of July, is almost here.

In the spirit of the holiday many are participating in traditional American activities such as parades, cookouts and barbecues, while the day will be celebrated with parades, fireworks and in other more unconventional ways.

The 4th of July, otherwise known as Independence Day, commemorates the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

As it is a federal holiday, this means most businesses will observe it, taking the day off and closing. These businesses include postal and courier services.

If you're worried about receiving or delivering mail and packages over the holiday weekend, keep reading, Newsweek has a detailed list of which mail services will still be open and which won't.

Is There Mail on July 4th?

This depends on who is delivering your mail. We've listed below the major U.S mail services and if they're open or not:

USPS

As in previous years, USPS will observe Independence Day and will be closed throughout. This means they will not be delivering any mail. Post offices and services will be closed throughout the day. It has released the following statement: "USPS will be closed on Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Post Offices will be closed and there will be no mail or package deliveries."

UPS

UPS will not be making deliveries except for priority or critical deliveries and UPS stores will remain closed throughout the day. In terms of their holiday schedule, the mail service company has released this statement, which you can find on their website: "UPS is closed on New Year's (Jan 1), Independence Day (July 4), Thanksgiving (Nov 25), and Christmas Day (Dec 25). UPS Express Critical® is still available."

FedEx

FedEx will not be making deliveries throughout the day, however local offices will be working at modified hours, contact your local FedEx post office to find out more. Critical deliveries, meaning priority mail, will still be delivered.

On Monday July 4, all FedEx services will be closed, except for FedEx Custom Critical, which is open, and FedEx Office, which will operate on modified hours.

FedEx resumes normal operations on Tuesday, July 5.

Will Priority Mail Get Delivered on July 4th?

Depending on the postal service, yes some priority mail will be delivered on Independence Day.

UPS and FedEX will be delivering priority and critical mail throughout the annual holiday.
