A British man was found to have hidden a bag of cocaine in his penis after being strip-searched by police in Newcastle, in the north east of England.

James Mason was arrested following a disturbance at Manor Bank student halls, a student accommodation block in the city center, located approximately a 15-minute walk away from the the main campus of Newcastle Unievrsity.

According to the local Chronicle newspaper, officers arrived at Manor Bank shortly after 10 p.m. local time (5 p.m. EST) on October 17 and they Mason talking to a security guard in the courtyard outside the student halls.

Prosecutor Bethany Jendrzejewski told North Tyneside Magistrates Court on Tuesday that when officers arrived at the scene Mason was holding a bottle of Sambuca and he "appeared to be unsteady on his feet, his eyes were glazed and he smelled of alcohol".

Police officers searched him after the disturbance but found no trace of illicit substances in his pockets, prompting Mason to laugh at them.

"Ha ha, told you I had f*** all on us you mugs", he reportedly told the officers. However, "after one too many swear words", officers opted to take him down to Forth Banks police station anyway for being drunk and disorderly.

"He was warned about his bad language and told to leave the area," Jendrzejewski added.

"But he replied: 'I'm going to go back in there and f****** smash their heads in, the mugs'."

The court heard that, on the way to the police station, officers noticed Mason was fiddling with his sock and put his hand down his trousers.

Officers than handcuffed the 21-year-old "to stop him messing with his clothes" and submitted a request to strip-search him once they got to the police station. Once the request was granted, officers began to strip-search Mason.

At that point, the court heard, "He removed his trousers, pulled back his foreskin and pulled a white bag of powder from his penis.

"The defendant was asked what it was and replied that it was cocaine."

Mason pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug as well as of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was fined £120 ($154) after magistrates said they had "rarely seen such an example of foolish adolescent behaviour."

He was also told to pay £85 ($109) in costs and £30 ($38) in victim surcharge.
