Man Dies on Flight to Ireland After Biting Passenger

A man died on an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin on Sunday after becoming agitated and biting a fellow passenger during the two-hour flight, Irish police told the Guardian.

The flight was diverted to the Irish city of Cork after the captain declared a "medical emergency."

The 24-year-old was restrained after biting another man an hour into the flight and then became unwell and fell unconscious, according to Ireland's RTE News.

The Irish Mirror reported that the man "ran amok" on the plane and became "extremely violent." A doctor onboard attempted to help the restrained man after he fell unconscious. It is reported that he was traveling on his own and may have been studying in Ireland.

Further details, including the man's identity and the cause of his death, remain unclear. A post-mortem will now be carried out. The 168 passengers and crew members onboard the flight were interviewed by Irish police before taking a bus to Dublin.

A statement released by Aer Lingus read: "Aer Lingus flight EI 485 Lisbon to Dublin, diverted into Cork due to a medical emergency on board. There were 168 guests and six crew members on board. The flight landed safely at 17.40 local time."

RTE added that one man, believed to be the passenger who was bitten, was injured during the flight and taken to the hospital.
