Man Wakes Up and Walks Outside, Is Selected by the Cat Distribution System

The cat distribution system worked its magic once again when a kitten followed a man into his home on the day of the eclipse.

Redditor r/BurtMaclin23 had never previously owned a cat. He has lived with nearly every pet imaginable, from dogs, ducks, chickens, and pigs, to reptiles and parrots. But cats are a new one for him.

He shared a story of how a kitten walked into his life on a recent post shared to the subreddit r/cats. He was outside on the morning of April 8 when a kitten saw him and followed him back inside. He spotted the kitten a couple of weeks prior, but when trying to call her over, she instead ran into the woods.

This time, she walked inside without hesitation, "trying to infiltrate" his home, he wrote in the caption. But after his dog of 15 years died two months ago, he figured the timing was right and let the tiny kitty stay. He turned to Reddit asking users for advice and tips to make her comfortable.

He has since taken the cat to the vet, where it was discovered she was not chipped or pregnant. The vet suspected she was between five and six months old. The kitten also has a full round of vaccines.

This new cat owner has been searching through social media to find if anyone was searching for a cat that fits the description in the area, but no luck. That's fine for him, though, as he has embraced the new kitty parenting lifestyle.

"We are doing great! She is a handful and very opinionated but extremely affectionate," r/BurtMaclin23, who asked for his real name not to be used, told Newsweek via Reddit messaging. "I still miss my dog but I think this kitten found me right when I needed her."

As for the kitty's name, he is going with Luna to fit in with the timing of her dropping in on the same day as the eclipse.

"Luna seems to fit her dopey demeanor," he wrote in a comment.

How Redditors Responded

The precious story gained traction that he was not expecting. As of Thursday, it had over 12,000 votes and 409 comments. Reddit users were flooding the comment section with tips and suggestions for this new first-time cat owner.

"Sorry to hear your dog passed. That's never easy, but maybe this new arrival is the Cat Distribution Network in full effect. Enjoy more love from the newbie!" said one user.

Another added: "Congratulations on being the chosen one!"

A third person said: "Your dog sent a new friend to keep you company."

The cat distribution system always drops these fur babies into people's laps when they least expect it.
