Man 'Sacrifices' Girlfriend to Get Out of Escape Room In Hilarious Video

Footage of a man ditching his girlfriend during an escape room experience in Germany has got people asking serious questions about their relationship.

Games can often bring out the worst traits in an individual whether it's competitiveness, cheating or, in the case of a clip shared to TikTok by escape game.augsburg, cowardice. The video can be watched here.

A study of 2,000 adults conducted by Hasbro Gaming found that 2 in 5 firmly believe you can discover someone's true personality by playing a game with them. Playing a game was also ranked among the top 10 best ways to get to know a partner in the poll, ahead of spending Christmas together.

If that is the case, and how we play games does offer a glimpse of our true selves, then the woman featured in the viral video shared by the Germany-based escape room company may have been left seriously reconsidering her future with her boyfriend.

In the clip, the pair can be seen standing stock still in what appears to be a Halloween-themed escape room. Seconds later, a terrifying ghost-like figure enters in a development that prompts the woman's startled boyfriend to push his partner towards the apparition before making a hasty exit for the door, which he closes behind himself, trapping his girlfriend inside.

"You're in an escape room and your boyfriend sacrifices you to save himself," an on-screen caption accompanying the clip reads. The video has certainly proven popular online, amassing over 28 million hits since arriving on the platform earlier this month.

But while the venue and many of those watching the footage definitely saw the funny side in what unfolded, for some, the boyfriend's reaction was unforgivable. Hopesdadsw1fe said: "Personally, I wouldn't let that slide" with harmupere agreeing: "I would take that to heart."

Krachel6 asked: "why close the door?" while Venice3 sarcastically commented: "a true gentleman." Regenwoud said: "he's not trustworthy. In a real situation the same thing would have happened probably."

Despite the anger felt by some, plenty found his reaction hilarious. Percy Altair joked: "Man got his priorities right" with thelukas26 adding: "The fear in her face looked so genuine."

Others sought to defend the man in the video against those saying the couple should break up. "People here need to learn how to have fun," Cloaca12 wrote. Lexiiexo, meanwhile, also commented: "don't know why people are saying break up, it's funny and i'm sure they found it funny too."

Keiranspry1 took things a step further, addressing those saying the boyfriend should have sacrificed himself with the response: "What happened to equality? Why should he sacrifice himself?"
