Man Tries to Use 30-Year-Old One Dollar Coupon—Can't Believe What Happens

When a man from California found a 30-year-old coupon in his mom's memory box, he decided to go and spend it on his baby, but had no idea if it would work.

In a post shared on TikTok in January, under the username @heckinsick, the poster, Logan, said that, when he was born 30 years ago, his mom received a congratulations card from a family friend. It came with a small gift, but she never used it and ended up saving it.

The poster can be heard saying in the clip: "Attached to the card was a coupon for a $1 off any Gerber baby item excluding food. And the coupon had no expiration date. So, now at age 30, I'm having my own baby, and I'm going to try to use this coupon that my mom never used."

The poster told Newsweek: "My mom was showing my fiancée Michelle and I a bunch of old baby pictures and baby books of mine, since we are expecting a baby of our own, and in one of the baby albums was a bunch of cards.

"When I was reading through the cards, I noticed one from my mom's best friend that had the Gerber coupon in it. We thought it would be funny to try to see if the coupon was actually still usable since it had no expiration date," Logan said.

He added that, after posting the clip, Gerber was very quick to make a video offering him and his fiancée a whole year's supply of baby food and a baby wardrobe.

"We were very excited for this, and thought the whole thing was crazy since it started from a small $1 off coupon. So many people commented that they were mad that I cut up a card that had sentimental value, and I was ruining the memory," Logan said.

"But, in the 30 years my mom had that card, she had probably only looked at it once or twice. But now my mom has shown so many people my video, and the Gerber response video. She, of course, showed it to her best friend who gave the card 30 years ago who loved it, and was not mad that I cut it up.

"Also, a nice touch was that, in the package Gerber gave us, they recreated the card, and the coupon, but this time with the baby food and wardrobe, so we now have an intact card to go with the cut-up one," Logan added.

Finding a working coupon in your old memory box is not an everyday occurrence. Almost half of Americans that use coupons, according to Statista, usually get them via marketing emails from the brands they follow, while 46 percent through online searches, and about 34 percent on coupon websites.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 15.7 million views and more than 2.2 million likes.
