People all across the world were planning to spend their Saturday marching in solidarity with those marching on Washington, D.C., for reformed gun laws.
The march, planned by the survivors of the Valentine's Day school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, was set to begin in D.C. at noon. More than 800 sibling marches were planned for other cities and towns from places as obscure as Homer, Alaska, to as well-known as Hong Kong.
All of the marches were arranged by independent groups with coordination help from Everytown for Gun Safety and Giffords Courage along with other organizations as well. The organizers of the D.C. march, high school students, are expecting thousands of participants and marchers to show up including a host of celebrities like Ariana Grande and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
A rally featuring performances by Miley Cyrus, Common, Andra Day, Demi Lovato and others will round out the event that will also include speeches. A map of closed roads and information about how to get to the rally is available on the March for Our Lives site along with information about rules and regulations for the rally.
For those who can't make it to D.C. or one of the sibling marches, there will be a live stream available online. C-SPAN will air the march live on Saturday beginning coverage at 10 a.m. EDT online and on television. A stream of the march will also be on Tumblr. That stream will begin at 12 p.m. EDT and "The livestream will be at the top of every dashboard on every phone, computer, and tablet that uses Tumblr that day," according to a Tumblr staff post.
There will likely be coverage of the event on other social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, and the students who worked to organize the rally will likely be sharing updates and information from their personal accounts all day long.
