Meek Mill Accidentally Trips Referee to the Floor During Suns, 76ers Game

Meek Mill provided one of the funnier moments of the NBA season so far when he got himself inadvertently involved in Philadelphia 76ers game against Phoenix Suns.

The 35-year-old rapper, who hails from Philly, was sat on the 76ers bench when he thought he would give his legs a stretch as his team led the Suns 45-29.

As the Suns brought the ball up the court, in the background, running along the sidelines was a referee who suddenly hit the deck as the play continued.

The official was sent sprawling across the floor with fans sitting court side jumping up to help the ref, who continued to officiate despite being on all-fours.

There was some initial confusion among the commentators on NBA TV as they tried to ascertain who was the guilty party before one exclaimed that it was Meek Mill, who had his legs stretched out to the side of the court.

The rapper is a regular visitor to Wells Fargo Center to support the 76ers, but this is the closest he has got to the action.

Thankfully the ref was not injured on the play and Meek was allowed to continue to have a close-up view of the action, which saw the 76ers eventually overcome the Suns 100-88, to hand the team from Phoenix only their third defeat of the season.

With the clip racking up thousands of views across various platforms on social media, there were plenty who wanted their say on what they saw.

Many made reference to Curb Your Enthusiasm and the moment on the TV show that Larry David tripped Los Angeles Lakers' Shaquille O'Neal, leading to the whole stadium booing the hapless character, with Shaq being led from the court with a knee injury.

One TikTok user commented: "Larry David did the same thing [laughing emojis]"

Some commented on how Meek was making himself feel at home on the sidelines, with one TikTok user remarking: "Meek put his feet out like he own the place."

Another added: "Meek there chatting forgot about the game."

While another felt that the proximity of some fans is to blame, writing: "I swear the fans are way to close at nba games."

A third added that Meek would have been ejected from the sidelines if he had been a 'normal' supporter: "So he should be kicked out immediately. Cause any normal fan would be."

After the clip began going viral, the rapper himself posted the video on his Twitter, along with a message in which he apologized to the referee.

Meek wrote: "Hov once said I be spiked out I can trip a referee lol I apologized to him that's brazyyy tho [four laughing emojis].

The 6 foot 2 rapper may be placed a little further from the side of the court the next time he watches the 76ers, so he can lay back and relax all he wants at one of his favorite places to hang out.
