The winning numbers announced Tuesday night were 34-44-57-62-70, Mega Ball 14 and Megaplier 4X, according to the Mega Millions website. The winning ticket was sold at Brookville Auto Service in Glen Head, New York, ABC News previously reported. This was the second time someone has hit the jackpot on New Year's Day. The first winning on New Year's Day happened in Texas in 2008, according to the lottery website.
There were also three people from New York who were Match 5 winners, along with other winners from Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas. A person from Pennsylvania was also a Match 5 and Megaplier winner, the website stated.
A Mega Millions ticket for $1.5 billion was sold in South Carolina during the October 24 drawing, but no one has claimed the prize yet. The winning ticket was sold at a convenience store in Simpsonville, South Carolina, CBS News previously reported. The winner of the billion dollar prize has until April to come forward to claim the prize.
