If there is no winner or the prize is not claimed, each state that participated in Mega Millions will get its money back, according to the website.

The last person to claim a Mega Millions prize was a man from Louisiana who claimed a one million dollar jackpot. Vince Dorsey won one million dollars during the December 4 Mega Millions drawing. He told lottery officials that he plays the lottery game occasionally and had stopped to get gas and purchased a ticket after the receipt for the fuel did not print.

"I had stopped (at Corner Grocery) to put diesel in my truck," he told lottery officials. "I just told them to give me two quick picks."

He took home $710,000 after state and federal taxes, lottery officials said. Dorsey said he plans to use the cash to fund his daughter's college tuition and then save the rest.
