The lottery numbers selected during the drawing were 02-43-48-62-64, Mega Ball 24, and Megaplier 3X, according to the Mega Millions website. Although no one won the $68 million jackpot, there were 12 winners who won a $10,000 prize after matching four numbers and the Mega Ball, the website states. The next Mega Millions drawing will be held on Tuesday night at 11 p.m. EST. The jackpot has been raised to $82 million with a cash option of $48.8 million, according to the lottery website.
On Tuesday and Friday nights, the Mega Millions hold their drawings at 11 p.m. EST. The popular lottery games is played in 44 states across the U.S., according to the Mega Millions website. The game costs $2 to play. To play the game, lottery players choose five numbers from one through 70 and then a sixth number from one through 25, according to the lottery website.
The last person to claim a Mega Millions prize was a woman from Oregon who won $3 million prize. Ann Mingus from Springfield, Oregon, told KMTR that she purchased a Mega Millions ticket from the November 30 drawing. She purchased the winning ticket at the Cottage Grove Safeway from a Lottery To Go machine, according to the news station.
"I like to use the machine then I don't have to wait in line at customer service," she told the news station. "A lot of people don't know you can buy Mega Millions and other tickets from them."
Officials from the Safeway told the news station that this was the largest Mega Millions jackpot sold in Oregon history.
"We can't believe our local Cottage Grove Safeway sold the winning $3 million Mega Millions ticket," said Jill McGinnis, Director of Communications and Public Affairs with Safeway, told KMTR. "We're so happy for our customer! It just goes to show, you never know who's going to win – it could be you the next time you're picking up dinner!"
A Mega Millions player in New York won the Mega Millions jackpot of $425 million on New Year's Day.
