Meghan Markle's Beyoncé Moment Goes Viral

Meghan Markle's reaction to a text message from Beyoncé after the 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview was broadcast has gone viral on TikTok.

The Duchess of Sussex read the message to Prince Harry as video cameras for their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan captured their reactions.

In the interview, the duchess told the world an unnamed royal family member had commented on her unborn child's skin tone and also revealed that she had experienced suicidal thoughts while pregnant.

A clip of the moment when Meghan got Beyoncé's text was liked 49,000 times and viewed 950,000 times after it was posted on TikTok, with the message "Prince Harry's reaction to Beyonce never gets old."

In the footage, Meghan says, "Beyoncé just texted" while Harry responds with a gasp, saying, "Shut up. Just casual."

Meghan suggests the pop star was "just checking in" before adding, "I still can't believe she knows who I am."

Harry says Meghan should "go and call her," but the duchess instead reads out the message, saying: "She says she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability and thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed."

Harry rounds off the discussion by noting he felt it was "well said."

One TikTok user replied: "Their ability to communicate clearly, be sensitive to each others needs and see each other's perspective, will give their relationship longevity."

Later in the clip, Serena Williams, the tennis champion and a friend of Meghan's, says: "They're creating their own family. Friends can be family too. They can start something fresh and new and hope that one day that family on both ends will be able to understand that this is truly love."

Meghan told Winfrey in the March 2021 tell-all interview: "So we have in tandem the conversation of 'He won't be given security, he's not going to be given a title' and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he's born."

Queen Elizabeth responded two days later with a statement: "The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

"The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning," she continued. "Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."

Harry has since clarified that the couple did not intend to accuse the royals of racism but instead of unconscious bias.

The royal biography Endgame by Omid Scobie accidentally named King Charles, then the Prince of Wales, as the royal behind the comment in its Dutch edition. The book also said Charles had written Meghan a letter after the interview saying no malice had been intended in his remark.
