Meghan Markle revealed her husband Prince Harry's favorite fast food chain in a recent interview, explaining that the couple likes to "surprise" workers by rolling through the drive-thru.
Meghan has given one of her most in-depth interviews since marrying Harry as she was set to be honored in the 2022 class of Variety's Power of Women.
Shortly before the planned announcement that Meghan was a recipient of the honor, Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 in Scotland, putting members of her family, including Meghan, into mourning, causing the duchess to miss the award ceremony.
Of the queen, Meghan told Variety that she feels "deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with" her, and that she continues "to be proud to have had a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family."
The interview covers deep subject matter such as Meghan's thoughts on the MeToo movement, her future career in Hollywood and how she wishes to be seen as a person in the public eye.
One of the more light-hearted anecdotes shared by Meghan is that her husband, Harry has a passion for a famous stateside fast food chain which the couple often stop at on the journey between their Montecito home and meetings in Los Angeles.
When asked who takes more snack breaks in their joint working day, Meghan or Harry, the duchess told the magazine: "It's funny. People sometimes think we live in Los Angeles, but we're a good two hours outside of it. We're commuters. We drove down recently for a day of back-to-back meetings, equipped with chocolate chip cookies the size of my toddler's head.
"Also, my husband's favorite is In-N-Out. There's one at the halfway point between L.A. and our neck of the woods. It's really fun to go through the drive-thru and surprise them. They know our order."
Harry has been known to be an occasional fan of fast food since his childhood, encouraged along with Prince William by his mother Princess Diana.
The princess would famously take her sons incognito to the McDonalds restaurant on Kensington High Street, a stones throw from their home at Kensington Palace in London.
Diana's former chef, Darren McGrady, revealed in a 2020, per The Daily Mirror, that he was once told to cancel the lunch he was preparing so that she could take her boys to the burger chain.
"I remember the Princess came into the kitchen one day and said, 'Cancel lunch for the boys I'm taking them out, we're going to McDonald's,'" he recounted.
"And I said, 'Oh my god your royal highness, I can do that, I can do burgers.'"
To this the chef said that the royal replied: "'No, it's the toy they want.'"
Also included in her discussion with Variety, Meghan gave an example of a typical working day for herself and Harry, showing how close they like to remain both personally and professionally.
"We share an office," she said. "We work from home, as most people started to do during lockdown. It allows us to have significant time with our kids at this really special moment in their lives. We'll never get this time back.
"I make breakfast, and we get the kids set for the day," she continued. "We do a lot of joint calls and Zooms, but also try to divide what we can focus our energies on so we can accomplish even more.
"My husband is on a 24-hour time zone, where half of your life is waking up as the other half is going to sleep. It's kind of the reverse of what I went through living in the U.K."
