Meghan McCain to Anthony Scaramucci: 'World Class People Don't Make Death Jokes About People With Brain Cancer'

Ailing Senator John McCain's daughter Meghan McCain took a shot at former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Thursday for his defense of White House aide Kelly Sadler, who was ousted for commenting that the senator is "dying anyway."

"Kelly Sadler is a world-class person who made a flippant off-hand remark in private. But instead of handling internally or attaching name to criticism, someone who wanted her fired leaked anonymously to press," Scaramucci tweeted Wednesday night. "This behavior is why people hate Washington."

Meghan McCain, a co-host on The View, quoted his tweet. "No - people hate Washington because the decorum and respect level has reached such toxic lows. And 'world class people' don't make death jokes about people with brain cancer. This is such bad spin, even by your standards Mooch," she wrote.

Sadler—who, in a closed-door meeting in May, said the senator's opposition to President Donald Trump's nomination of Gina Haspel for CIA director "doesn't matter, he's dying anyway"—was out of her role as a special assistant to Trump as of reports on Tuesday.

Scaramucci tweeted an apology later on Wednesday night. "Of course what Kelly said was wrong and regrettable. She acknowledged that and apologized in private. WH should've signed off on public apology, too," he wrote, referring to the White House. "John McCain is a true American hero, period. As honorable and resilient as they come. I'm praying for the senator."

Meghan McCain acknowledged that tweet by Scaramucci on Thursday as well, with a "Thank you" tweet.

Scaramucci has been fronting criticism on Twitter over the past couple of days over backing Sadler. He was ousted from the White House last July, just days after threatening to "fire everybody," including leakers, in the communications department.

Meghan McCain suggested that Sadler should be fired a day after the White House aide's comment leaked. "Whatever you want to say, in this kind of environment, the thing that surprises me the most is, I don't understand what kind of environment you're working in when that would be acceptable and then you could come to work the next day and still have a job," she said of Sadler on The View.

But Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said that Sadler may be "eligible" for another position within the Trump administration, and that it would be Sadler's call if she wanted to return, just one day after reports that she was ousted.
